February 26th, 2009

Martin and daniel are here and already they’ve fixed the tractor, broken the car, fixed the car, made a track, painted a verandah, got me to a nuclear protest meeting with a bunch of young radicals, andthey have John fired up to do his bush medicine thing in our back yard. We’ve got the builders making a new verandah and awning and thats just teh start of it. Its good to be alive but I just wish my mum still was.

Bike and budgies

February 14th, 2009

I hadn’t ridden my bike for a couple of months because it’s been too hot… and we were away for most of January. But this week the winds changed direction and the temperatures have dropped so this evening after I watered my vegie garden and before the sun set, I dragged out my trusty wheels and rode over to Simpsons Gap. Each time I start riding again I feel like I discover anew the joys of bike riding in Central Austalia.  The roads are flat and you feel so small against the wide open spaces and you go at a much gentelr pace to be able to really see the colours of the rocks and gums in the light of the setting sun! Tonight I was even extra blessed by a couple of flocks of budgies who kept circling over me, twittering away. I love seeing budgies fly free because for most of my life I only knew them as caged birds.  They live out here in this big country and fly around under the big sky in groups and just seem so much happier than on their own in cages. They lifted my spirit. I’d had a difficult day having been called out on a Saturday morning for a nasty rape case. The bike and the budgies under the setting sun have healed my spirit.
